Grammy Hall of Fame in New Orleans Grows Closer to Reality

New Orlean's popular and roots recording artists are in frequent contention to gain recognition for their work when the Grammy's and other music awards come around each year, and 2002 was no exception. Nominated New Orleans and Louisiana artists included Dr. John, Nicholas Payton, Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown, Beausoleil, and Los Hombres Calientes, and winners were recording artists Chris Thomas King, Harry Connick, Jr. and Lucinda Williams.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame includes the following Louisianians: Louis Armstrong, Dave Bartholomew, James Burton, Fats Domino, Mahalia Jackson, Leadbelly, Jerry Lee Lewis, Jelly Roll Morton, Earl Palmer, Lloyd Price, Professor Longhair and Allen Toussaint.

Meanwhile, a Grammy Hall of Fame in New Orleans grows closer to becoming a reality on a downtown site next to the New Orleans Hilton. Plans for the Grammy Hall of Fame facility will include a Louisiana Pavilion to highlight local music and musicians.
